LAKE TAPPS COMMUNITY CHURCH

How beautiful are the feet!

Dear LTCC Family,

In Isaiah 52:7 and Romans 10:15, those who bring and preach the Gospel of good news are described as beautiful feet. Whenever I hear or come across the phrase “How beautiful are the feet”, my mind thinks of our missionaries.

My first awareness of missions and missionaries happened in high school. I attended a Missionary Alliance Church and the pastors, and often the guest speakers, were missionaries. I really did not understand missions at that time, but I loved hearing their stories. (Side note: it was during my time at Kent Missionary Alliance Church that I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior at a Billy Graham crusade with Nicky Cruz speaking).

Frannie and I started attending Lake Tapps Community Church in 1982. In 1991, Pastor Birkey asked if we would like to go on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. We were honored, but had doubts. Who would take care of our young daughters? We don’t have an extra thousand dollars.  What about work? But God is good!  He took care of all the details and we were able spend 10 days building a church in the Dominican Republic!

My first mission trip gave me a new perspective on missions and I learned things about myself that I never knew. I had to get out of my comfort zone in a cross-cultural experience, and to really trust God. Since then, God has given me the privilege to go on and lead numerous mission trips and to experience, hear and be part of many more mission stories. I have been blessed by being involved in missions through prayer, giving financial support and having personal contact with our missionaries.

Can I challenge you in 2024 to ask yourself these questions?

  • When was the last time I alone, or with my family, have prayed for one of our 21 missionaries?

  • Have I stopped at our missionary wall or opened our missionary web page lately?

  • Do I talk about our missionaries or missions with my kids? (our future missionaries)

  • Have I committed to regular financial support of one or more of our missionaries?  Or given a one-time gift? (Both are important).

Missions and Missionaries need our prayers, our financial support and communications to combat homesickness. In the last part of Titus, Paul asked for help to continue his ministry. Missions is a team effort. The church and its members are the team where missionaries are born, nurtured, trained, tested, approved and sent. Missionaries have a lot to worry about. They need support from all of us!

Coming up in April, Micah Heath will be visiting here at Lake Tapps to share how God is working in his and Andrea's lives and ministries. Please join us at any or all of his speaking events:

Thank you, Lake Tapps, for being a mission-minded church.

Dear friend, you are being faithful to God when you care for the traveling teachers who pass through, even though they are strangers to you. They have told the church here of your loving friendship. Please continue providing for such teachers in a manner that pleases God. For they are traveling for the Lord, and they accept nothing from people who are not believers. So, we ourselves should support them so that we can be their partners as they teach the truth. [3 John 5-8]

PS - We are excited to have five new elder candidates going through the affirmation process! Please take some time to review the Affirmation page on our website for reminders about the office of elder and the affirmation process. Also, read through the bios of our elder candidates and reach out to them individually if you would like to connect with them. Voting to affirm the elder candidates will take place prior to the special Member meeting on April 14th.
