How am I living in the gap?

Dear LTCC Family,

During this graduation season and end of the school year festivities, I’ve found myself reflecting on the rich tapestry of life.  Milestones such as graduations often stir up many emotions as they mark the end of a season and the beginning of something new.  Tears flow as that graduation day reminds us of each day along the way as we’ve journeyed to that point.

All this reflection has me thinking of the value of living each day well.  Each day along the way gives us a new opportunity to choose well.  Each good choice builds upon the last and ultimately takes us to our “graduation day” when we are standing in the presence of Jesus.  We long to hear, “Well done, My good and faithful servant.”  As we’ve been reminded recently of the brevity of life on earth with the “graduations” of our beloved Pastor Tim and Cheryl Wilson. We are living today, in the gap between our birth and death.  Grave markers note this with a hyphen. XXXX XXXX.  I ask myself how am I living in that hyphen gap?

Who or what am I choosing?

·      Am I choosing God’s Word, or social media?

·      Am I choosing activities that point me to Christ, or draw me away?

·      Am I choosing the eternal over the temporary?

·      Am I choosing wisdom over foolishness?

·      Am I choosing to depend upon Jesus or to try to work things out in my own strength?

·      Am I choosing to invest well in the lives of others, or is my focus elsewhere?

·      Am I choosing Jesus, each and every day?

Choose well.  As Matt reminded us on Sunday, the Israelites had the opportunity to choose to serve Jehovah, or serve the other gods.  Joshua 24:15 - “Choose for yourselves today whom you will serve. . .  but as for me and my house, we will (CHOOSE) to serve the LORD” Joshua and the others chose to serve the LORD their God.  They chose well.  Sadly, just 4 pages later in my Bible, Judges 2:10 tells us another generation after them arose who did not know the LORD.  Apparently, the parents chose other things and did not teach their children about God.  That generation forsook the LORD and served Baal.  It’s certainly easy to see the error of their ways.  May it remind us to be intentional about our choices each day.    Choosing the LORD.  Choosing HIS ways.  Choosing to share who He is.  Choosing to follow Him.

Singer/Songwriter, Brian Doerkson wrote these lyrics.

Today I choose to follow you

Today I choose to give my 'yes' to you

Today I choose to hear your voice and live

Today I choose to follow you

As for me and my house

We will serve you

As for me and my house

We will spend our lives on you

Today

Wonderful counselor, everlasting father

Eternal king, lord of hosts

Willingly we follow

Today I choose to follow you

Today I choose to give my yes to you

Today I choose to hear your voice and live

Today I choose to follow you
