Pastor Slavic is a Ukrainian pastor who is about 55 years old and has been living in our office in Riga since March, together with his wife, Liuba and 19 year old daughter, Liubichka.
They were serving in Russia when the war broke out.
They have two sons who are still in Ukraine and cannot leave. Please be in prayer for these young men.
They are tremendous people. Since day one, he has been ministering to Ukrainians using BBI as his base. We have hired Slavic full time as our Director of Ukrainian Ministry, beginning July 1. We are looking for funds to pay him for at least a year. If he is able to get a residence permit after his one year visa expires, we will try to keep him on staff.
The cost per month is $2285 euros ($2305 usd).
Here’s what he has been doing:
Visits pockets of Ukrainian refugees who are temporarily living in cities and villages all over Latvia. He provides counsel for personal and spiritual needs.
Visits the Polish/Ukrainian border and provide counsel for personal and spiritual needs. He advises for them on next steps in their journeys …Germany, UK, Latvia, US, etc.
Visits and helps at Ergle Sparni, BBI camp in central Latvia.
Visits refugee families in regions near the camp. When he visits, he always has medicine, pampers, food, and plastic to cover leaking windows… according to requests.
Helps recruit kids and family to attend a planned June camp for Ukrainian children with disabilities. This is organized by Ugis Pallo, Janis’ son, who is pastor of City Church.
Helps with a Ukrainian kids’ camp at Eagle’s Wings in August.
Studies the Latvian language…and recruits other Ukrainians to join the class which will be held in the BBI office twice a week in June.
Advises BBI and Partners about new opportunities for ministry and/or assistance.
