Making Plans
Luke 24:13-35 is one of my favorite stories from the Gospels. Two men encountered the newly risen Christ on the road from Jerusalem to Emmaus. After hearing about “the things that had happened there in these days,” (v.18) I imagine a twinkle in Jesus’ eye, as he chided them for not believing “all that the prophets have spoken.” (v.25) Then, “…beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.” (v.27)
Oh, the many times I have longed to be a cricket riding the shoulder of one of those men… to hear Jesus open their minds to the Scriptures and reveal God’s plan, from eternity past, to save sinners. But as I complete another yearly read-through of the Bible, I am convinced that Jesus has been, and is, opening the Scriptures for me!
It’s time to plan my path through Scripture in the coming year. Do I need a new “readin’ Bible” because this one is too marked up? I’ll need to get one. Should I use a different yearly reading plan or commentary? I’ll need time to consider options.
One thing is certain, I will be reading the Bible, cover to cover, in 2025, and I look forward to everything Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, will teach me. It’s never the same and it grows richer every year!
What about you? Will you join me by making your plan to read through the Bible in 2025?

THANK YOU!
We would like to thank everyone for their participation in the Latvia Christmas gift offering last week. Together we raised over $3,000 to provide food, heating, and other necessities for families throughout the winter. The material impact of your gift is huge, and we believe God will use your generosity to shine his light through Mersrags Baptist Church!
