Side by Side

It is truly exciting to witness God’s plan unfolding after months of fasting, praying, and preparing together! We know our journey doesn’t stop here, Lord—we will continue seeking Your will, for “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105

As we step forward in faith, let’s apply that powerful truth from Nehemiah, where God’s people rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem together. Again and again, Scripture says “and next to them”—a clear reminder that God’s work is never meant to be done alone. Together, we serve, we build, and we follow His leading!

Each person, from priests to merchants, stood side by side, using their unique gifts to restore what was broken. No task was too small, no effort unimportant. They worked without fanfare or desire for recognition. Many of you serve in the same way—faithfully, quietly, and with hearts focused on loving God and helping others follow Jesus.

How has God gifted you? Some serve by teaching, encouraging, giving, sharing meals, leading or simply showing up when someone is in need. Others serve through prayer, hospitality, music, driving, encouragement or hands-on work. Whatever your gifts, take courage, they are valuable to the body of Christ!

If God is stirring your heart, let an elder, or deacon know that you want to serve next to each other in the coming weeks. Together, God will use us all to continue to build something lasting—for His glory!

The Apostle Paul lived a life on mission. Regardless of warnings from friends and opposition from foes, his heart had been so transformed by Jesus that he could do nothing else but follow the purpose that was set before him. How was he able to do this? Not in his own abilities as he knew he was far from perfect. Only through the power of the Holy Spirit was he able to combat fear, frustration and what seemed like failure.

In Discovery Club and Children’s Church, we’ve been following Paul’s life to learn what it takes to be on mission with Jesus. We continue to be amazed and encouraged by the work of the Holy Spirit in his life as Paul boldly shares the gospel throughout the Roman Empire. The children are working on memorizing this good news so they will be prepared for the Holy Spirit to work in their lives to first know Jesus and what He has done for them and then, like Paul, be compelled to share it with others. Feel free to ask the kids to “show” you the gospel (as there are hand motions). It’s great practice for them!
