Weekly Update: Pastor Succession

Good morning, Lake Tapps!

This morning please find an update from the Sr. Pastor Succession Committee provided by Perry Maxfield.
———-

Greetings,

The Sr. Pastor Succession Committee has been hard at work the last few months and it’s time to provide you an update on our progress and next steps.  I am so blessed by the dedicated people on the committee and thankful for all the prayers from you all.  Since our last update in February, the committee has accomplished the following:

  • Developed an inventory of biblical requirements and characteristics for a pastor, desired personal attributes in a senior pastor, and qualifications we are looking for in our next Sr. Pastor.

  • Developed a Sr. Pastor Job Description.

  • Developed the interview process we will use to finalize our recommendation for Sr. Pastor.

  • Developed a Pastor Assessment Matrix that outlines how we will assess a candidate’s alignment with the job description, church leadership, our tenants of faith, and our church family.

  • Accepted an offer by Village Missions to facilitate a strengths assessment process. “The Talent Discovery Guide” from the IDAK group is the process VM uses for their pastor candidates. This tool will help to inform our forthcoming interview conversations and align a candidate’s talents and strengths with the responsibilities for the Sr. Pastor role.

You can find the job description and full assessment process by clicking here.  (The password for the page can be found in the weekly checkin email you were sent).

Now we are ready to move into the application and interviewing phase.

After much prayer, the committee has unanimously decided to invite Nathan Betts to apply and interview for the Sr. Pastor position.  Nathan has shared his call to ministry and interest in this position with the elders and some members of the committee and we are delighted to consider “one of the family” for this role.  At this time, we feel led to interview Nathan before considering any steps toward inviting external candidates to apply, if at all.

We expect the application and interview process with Nathan to span over the next couple of months; into August is likely.  It looks like this:

Intake Phase (June-July):

  1. Application

  2. Background Check, Reference Checks, IDAK Group’s Strengths Assessment

Assess & Discern Phase (July-August):

  1. Interviews (Committee, Elders)

  2. Interaction (Dinners, small groups, 1:1’s)

  3. Decision & Recommendation

We are praying for Nathan and praying for God’s wisdom to discern God’s call for Nathan and for LTCC.  We are excited for how God is working through Nathan, this Succession Committee process, and the LTCC Family.

Please continue to pray that God’s wisdom and faithful hand is steadfastly present as we continue to work through this process.

On behalf of the Committee,

Perry Maxfield
