The Joy of the Great Commision

Dear LTCC Family,

Throughout Scripture God gives specific commands to us. Love the Lord your God [Deuteronomy 6:5], follow me [Mathew 4:19], and go make disciples [Mathew 28:19] and repeated in Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”  The great commission is great because it rests on the authority of Christ and it involves the entire church, yet notice that Jesus did not voice, “Jerusalem, then Judea, then the end of the earth. Nor did he suggest Jerusalem or Judea, or the end of the earth. Rather Jesus provides the power to be witnesses to our city, and our state and our neighboring countries and the ends of the earth.

God has a mission and we at (LTCC) are merely agents, empowered by the Holy Spirit to carry out God’s will on earth. But we don’t have to do it alone, we need each other. Missionaries and mission agencies depend on the pastoral care of local churches. But a church, if the people have the heart of God, will have a heart for all the peoples of the earth and will be mission minded.

As a church we need to have the heart of God for all peoples of the earth. I am blessed that one of our core values is to be actively involved in the “Great Commission”. Here are a few ways we do that at LTCC.

  • We provide weekly missionary spotlights focusing on one of our missionaries, and hold corporate prayer to intercede for them, as well as the needs of our church (join us every Sunday at 9:15 for our corporate prayer time).

  • We enjoy personal visits and updates from visiting missionaries.

  • We have pictures of our 21 missionaries, short bios, prayer cards, and our community partnerships on the walls right behind the sanctuary.

  • During annual Missions Emphasis Weekend (October 27-29, 2023) we will highlight and hear from one of our missionaries, Micah and Laura Myers.

  • For a month before our Missions Emphasis Weekend, there will be flags on the walls of the sanctuary representing the countries our missionaries represent and of many other countries in need of the Gospel.

If the idea and reality of people eternally separated from God because they have not heard the Gospel really bothers you, then the challenge is to do something about it. Maybe not all of us can go to another location, but all of us can be involved and actively come alongside our missionaries. Go to the missions’ page on the LTCC website and familiarize yourself with the missionaries. Each one of us can financially support missionaries. All of us can encourage and love our missionaries. All of us can pray for our missionaries. Each one of us can have an active role in missions.

It is a joy to serve with you in fulfilling the Great Commission!
