Icebergs

I love icebergs. It’s amazing to see them form, huge chunks of ice falling into the ocean, enormous waves and, finally, a little bit of the ice still visible above the water.

While not so dramatic, the work of our elders reminds me of icebergs.  Especially the last part, where only a small bit is readily visible.

The elders meet nearly every Sunday to pray, study, review and plan.  Much of what we discuss is confidential, but here is a peek at our typical agenda… the bit of iceberg that is visible:

LTCC’s Core Values are reflected throughout all Elder Team meetings…

PRAYER (Core Values 5) - Prayer is key; fervent, focused prayer takes time and effort, and is vital to ensure our alignment with God’s will for LTCC.

STUDY (Core Values 1 & 4) - Study of Scripture fosters unity and keeps us focused on God’s Word as we care for our family.  (2 Timothy 2:15)

MEMBER CARE (Core Values 6- 8) - This is at the heart of our calling. Much is confidential, but we focus on those who are sick, stumbling, or struggling with issues of life and explore how LTCC might help. This is the underwater part of the iceberg. (1 Peter 5:2-3, Hebrews 13:17)

OVERSIGHT / PLANNING / VISION (Core Values 6- 9) - This includes many areas of oversight and changes weekly according to current needs in the body: Council interactions, benevolence, worship, curriculum, small groups, pastor search… all of these and more are addressed.

The elders seek to serve diligently, in humility before God.  We love and appreciate our family and are grateful for your support and prayers.

Outgoing Deacon of Connections & Administration

Helping people follow Jesus is a key component of our mission as a church.  In order to help others follow Jesus, we must follow Him ourselves, growing in our knowledge of Him and in our relationship with Him, and sharing Him with others. How can we do that?

PRAY: Participate in the next week of Prayer & Fasting, the first week of February.

GROW: Sign up for an Intentional Discipleship Bible study! Studies begin this Sunday/next week!

GIVE: Give financially to glorify God & support the mission of our church. Give of your time & talents by serving within the church and in the community.

GO: Use a Gospel Card to share Jesus with others. Provide a meal to a church member or a neighbor. Volunteer to serve in the community where you can show the love of Jesus

Although this is my last week in the office and serving as a deacon, I look forward to praying, growing, giving and going alongside you for years to come!
