Unity

Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! [Psalm133:1]

Unity is a precious commodity and is held in high esteem all through Scripture. It binds believers together with a common love in the Spirit, a common mission for Christ, care and love for one another which brings glory to God.

So, if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus. [Phil 2:1-5]

Paul was making the point that God’s grace and mercy extended to them through Christ Jesus has given them a new life of encouragement in Christ, comfort from the love of God, fellowship with the Spirit and a new affection and sympathy through the eyes of God.

Paul says that we are not only to think about ourselves, but to consider the needs of others. Then he really goes counter-cultural to our society’s current love affair with “self-esteem” when he says to consider others more significant than yourself. Paul also points out that this attitude can only be achieved through our union with Christ.

Seniors Ministries Deacon

Genesis tells us that man was created to be a social being and Paul writes extensively about the fellowship of the saints. COVID graphically showed us the downside of social isolation.

The Senior Ministries Team has become more active this year in many areas and… Fellowship is Happening! Men’s and Women’s weekly coffee times have built and deepened relationships. Books have been read and shared at Women’s Book Club. Group trips and tours were enjoyed with one more planned this year: Senior Game Day!  Potluck meals and programs have been fun as well as educational and…Fellowship is Happening!  Outreach includes seniors taking part in service projects, in and outside our church with more on the horizon. Oh, did I mention Fellowship is Happening?

Jesus called benefits to the church ‘fruit’ and we continue to pray for His leading and blessing in being more fruitful.
